Book Club Questions for
“A CRAFT OF STARLIGHT”
What were your initial expectations going into A Craft of Starlight? In what ways did the book meet or challenge those expectations?
At the beginning of the story, we may see Luze as more of a victim. Did you still feel this way by the end? Were any of her actions morally ambiguous? Was she always justified?
What moment or image from the book stayed with you the longest after finishing?
Power over magic—as well as its loss—is a major theme throughout the story, as Luze struggles with her abilities. What do you think the origins of this struggle are? Is it purely a technical or physical issue, or is it mental?
Without giving anything away, some elements of the ending might be surprising to readers. How did you feel about the ending?
There are a few plot twists in this story. How did you feel about these turns? Did you guess them beforehand?
How does Luze change over the course of the story? What experiences most clearly shape her transformation?
Which secondary character felt the most complex or compelling to you, and why?
How did you feel about the relationship between Aslen and Luze?
Were there any character choices you struggled to understand or agree with? How did that tension affect your reading?
There is a major disagreement between Luze and Thyo that directly affects the conclusion of the story. How did you feel about each of their perspectives? Did you agree with one more than the other? Were each of their actions justified?
What does the book suggest about the cost of power versus love? Is it worth the price paid by the characters?
How does A Craft of Starlight treat the idea of destiny versus choice? Does Luze ultimately make her own destiny, or is she a victim of fate, or both?
In what ways does the story examine identity—who we are versus who we are expected to be? How do characters like Luze and Thyo fulfill this identity?
How does light (or darkness) function emotionally as well as literally in the narrative?
Were there passages you felt compelled to reread? What made them stand out?
